The National Solar Tour will give Wyomingites an opportunity to learn about solar power from their own neighbors.

Solar power converts the sun's rays into usable electricity. The renewable energy source has been on the rise in the U.S. as the technology has become more cost effective.

Hesid Brandow, a community organizer for the Powder River Basin Resource Council, said the virtual event is a good way to see if solar power is right for you.

"People who have solar either on their home or their business, they will sign up to host a tour of their home or their business," she said. "They'll talk about their system, how they got into solar, how it's been for them, whatever they want to talk about really in relation to their solar energy system."

She said the tours are part of the RENEWyoming campaign, which looks to connect potential solar power users with the resources they need to get started.

The event runs from September 28 to October 4 and will feature homes and businesses across the state. Registration is available online.
