Transmission Line Environmental Impact Statement Now Available

An Environmental Impact Statement for a proposed transmission line that would carry electricity from Sinclair to the Western U.S. is now available for review.

Beverly Gorny with the Bureau of Land Management says the company Transwest Express, LLC, first proposed the 730-mile long transmission line in 2007.  Her agency will be accepting written concerns for the next month.

“This is the last—the second-to-the-last—step in the process in that this final Environmental Impact Statement is available for public review,” she says, “and there is a public protest period that ends on June First.”

The line would transmit Wyoming’s wind energy to populous areas like Las Vegas.

BLM's Beverly Gorny says the public is invited to submit written concerns by June 1st.

“We’re just always very happy when the public does provide their input, as they have done very well in this process, and we’re excited to look to the finish line of releasing a Record of Decision down the road and seeing a project get built,” she says.

Gorny says she expects plans for the project to be finalized in the fall.
