Story Fish Hatchery and Visitor Center - Story

Jun 1, 2015

The Story Fish Hatchery invites you to explore one of the ten fish hatcheries operated by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department.  Located in the scenic ponderosa forest at the base of the Bighorn Mountains, the hatchery provides a unique opportunity to observe fish and local wildlife.

The hatchery houses five types of adult fish for egg production including rainbow, brook, brown, lake and the only captive stock of adult golden trout in the United States.  The hatchery produces over 6 million eggs a year that are used to conserve Wyoming’s aquatic resources and enhance sport fisheries throughout the state.

The hatchery is open to public visitation from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm daily.  Come visit the hatchery and visitor center and don’t forget to take quarters for the feed machine so that you can feed the lake trout!
