Rock Springs Hosts Its First-Ever Arts Week

Rock Springs Arts Week

Rock Springs residents make and collect art, and city officials think it's time to celebrate that. Over the next week, folks in Rock Springs can attend a poetry slam, an opera concert, and a dance performance. They can view art from eclectic local collections, or take a Chinese brush painting class.

Rock Springs Urban Renewal Agency manager Chad Banks says these kinds of things are happening all the time in Rock Springs. If you can't make it this week, he said there's always something artsy going on in Rock Springs.

"We wanted to make sure that folks know everything that goes on and how much there really is," Banks said. "I think so often we're not received as an arts and culture kind of community, and so we really wanted to take that opportunity to highlight everything that happens here. We have a really strong arts scene, and it's growing more and more all the time."

Banks says he's especially excited for the performance by Opera Wyoming, whose co-founder is from Rock Springs. Other highlights include a quilt show and a Beatles tribute band concert. Rock Springs Arts Week runs March 1-10.
