Rising Jackson Artists Featured In Annual Exhibition

Art Association of Jackson Hole

Nine up-and-coming Jackson artists will be featured in the fourth annual Jackson Rising exhibition opening this weekend. Local artists recommended their peers for the Jackson Rising display. Art Association Gallery director Thomas Macker says this process of finding new contributors keeps the exhibition fresh year after year.

“Each year the artists from the previous year nominate the next artists. So it’s this ever evolving organic index of emerging artists of the community,” says Macker. “It’s a way for the list or index to grow by itself and have its own sort of life force.”

Macker says the nine Jackson locals being featured this year are contributing to a growing network of local talent. The exhibition is designed to highlight local artists rather than outside creators.

“So, you know, there’s, there’s a great thematic contingent of art that’s being shown in the commercial galleries in Jackson that is made by artists most often from outside the region. So there’s not a great deal of Jackson Hole artists represented.”

The exhibition will open with a reception on Friday, September 11, at the Art Association Gallery in Jackson.
