Murray Wins GOP Secretary Of State Nomination In Close Race

Ed Murray for Wyoming (campaign)

Last night Ed Murray emerged with the GOP nomination for Secretary of State after running a close race against Ed Buchanan.

Buchanan was in the lead from when the polls closed at 7pm until almost 11, when results from Laramie County, the state’s largest, tipped the race decisively towards Ed Murray.

“I felt it was going to be a close race from the get go,” said Murray from Cheyenne. “We worked hard every day in anticipation that it would be close.

Murray, a Cheyenne businessman, spent more than $400,000 of his own money on his campaign. Ed Buchanan, who was his closest competitor, spent less than a fourth of that. But Murray says it was his ideas that led him to victory.

“The money was not the decisive factor at all. The Wyoming voters are ready for some new blood.” Murray currently doesn’t have a general election opponent, but he says he won’t start planning for his time in office until after the November election.
