Mountain Lion Sightings In Casper Prompt Workshop

Wyoming Game and Fish

After sightings of mountain lions around Casper this summer, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department will hold a workshop to educate residents about mountain lion behavior and how to prevent conflicts with the animals.

Janet Milek, a spokeswoman for the Casper region of the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, said mountain lions have recently been spotted three times in town.

“The sighting that remains, I think, in most people’s minds was the one on the Paradise Valley Golf Course,” said Milek. “It was seen about 3:30 in the afternoon on a very hot day, which is kind of unusual.”

The department holds the workshop in April every year, but Milek said they decided to have one now to better answer residents’ questions.

“It is a great opportunity to interact with the biologists working with this wildlife and really have the chance to pick their brains,” she said.

There will be presentations on mountain lion biology, behavior, and what to do if you or your pet run into one. Milek said the Department is particularly concerned about people leaving pets outdoors overnight.

The workshop will take place Thursday, August 18 at 6pm at Casper’s Regional Game and Fish Office.
