The Lincoln County Commissioners are backing True Oil L-L-C proposal to drill two gas wells in the Bridger-Teton National Forest. One well would be located on a well pad where oil development has already occurred, the second would be a new well.
Lincoln County Commission Chairman Kent Connelly says the company plans to use new technology to recover the gas, and that’s why they support the plan.
“With the technology change in drilling in there, you can do this; it’s not a really invasive approach that they are talking about doing.”
Some area residents are concerned. In public comments they discussed worries about possible fracking in the area as well as impacts on roads from truck traffic. Connelly says there will be traffic impacts, but a lot of the potential problems can be dealt with early on.
“I have two well improved roads in this area now that they got improved because of the rigs that were in here in the mid-80’s, late 80’s. You’re gonna have a road impact, you always do with something new coming in. In the agreement they just need to make sure that they have the road maintenance taken care of.”
The Bridger-Teton National Forest is using the comments to develop a final plan that will be released in November.
