Since the legislature might once again be considering Medicaid expansion for those who can't afford insurance, the Senate is considering a bill that would pay for a study.
Senator Charles Scott said the Wyoming Department of Insurance will hire actuaries to do the work, which he said will make it an unbiased look at the issue.
"We're talking about a major issue and I would submit to your whether you are for Medicaid expansion or opposed to it, this is a good bill because it should give us some sound numbers that we can base our arguments on," Scott said.
He said the study will look at everything from the numbers of people who will be on the program, costs to the state, and if expanding Medicaid will help hospitals with their uncompensated care.
