Republican State senator Curt Meier will be Wyoming's new state treasurer. Meier served in the Wyoming Senate for over 20 years and has a background in farming and business.

As treasurer, he said he will move forward with good investment plans by entering into private equities and co-investments where there is a potential for higher returns.

"That's going to take a lot more due diligence and partnerships with financial institutions and I think those can be done but first we need right people in place," said Meier.

Meier said it is critical for the top-five elected officials in the state to work as a team.

"The biggest challenge to that is what's going on in Washington D.C. and other governments around the world and what they are doing with their economies," Meier said.

But he said no matter what, Wyoming's base industries like energy and agriculture still have great potential but the state should also look at other areas like investing in medical breakthroughs.

Meier is taking over the state treasurer office from Governor-elect Mark Gordon.
