Country Party Candidate Joel Otto to Challenge Senator John Barrasso

Senator John Barrasso and Democrat Tim Chestnut have a third party candidate in their race for U.S. Senate. That’s Country Party nominee Joel Otto.
Otto’s focus is on reducing government spending and downsizing government. He thinks states should handle regulations over everything from education to environmental controls.

"While you need to get federal involvement on some things, we need to keep those things to as few as possible. So yes, I would recommend state regulation as far as state air quality, as far as wildlife protection, those sorts of things, because I think that on a state level it could be more responsive to the people who are actually experiencing the environment that they actually live in."

He also advocates for reducing taxes to a minimum and turning taxes into a user fee structure, where fees are directly linked to services and assessed to their users, instead of a broad tax structure. Otto sees a freer market for insurance companies as the solution for making health care more affordable.
It’s the first time the Country Party is on the ballot. Otto is one of six candidates from the party this election season.
