Run the Red

Run the Red

Run the Red is Wyoming’s premier trail running event dedicated to celebrating and conserving the Red Desert — a rugged, vast and storied landscape. Run the Red began in 2014 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act of 1964 and the 30th anniversary of the Wyoming Wilderness Act, and in 2019 the race celebrated the inaugural

Wyoming Public Lands Day.

Run the Red is a community gathering for the many communities that use and love the desert — hunters, ranchers, horse packers, mountain bikers, and outdoor enthusiasts of all sorts — and a chance to connect with the history of the Northern Red Desert. These Indigenous ancestral lands are used by members of the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho tribes to this day, and the land still bears the wagon ruts of the 500,000 settlers who traversed South Pass on the Oregon, Mormon, and California trails.
