Wyoming football falls to 0-3

The Wyoming Cowboys football team remains winless after losing Saturday to Cal-Poly 24  to 22.

Cal Poly's Deonte Williams rushed for 187 yards, including a 65-yard score on the game's fourth play.

Wyoming rallied from an early 14 point deficit to lead 15-14 at the half.   But without injured Quarterback Brett Smith, the Cowboys struggled to get much going on offense and the defense struggled for the third straight game.

However, Wyoming did pull to within 24-22 when Shaun Wick scored his third touchdown of the game, but the Cowboys never threatened after that and Cal Poly sealed the win with a 4th Quarter interception.

Wick said all the team can do is forget the loss and work on finding a way to win.

Cornerback Blair Burns said the team is losing close games because they are not executing in key situations.

“You know we just need to get more turnovers.  Just get off the field on 3rd downs, execute the game plan on both sides of the ball, not just on some plays, but every single play. “

Wyoming entered the game ranked 98th in the country in total defense and was out gained by Cal-Poly 359 yards to 260.

Head Coach Dave Christensen said that the only thing that will improve things is winning and he says all the team can do is get better.

After the game, Christensen added that he still has no idea when injured Quarterback Brett Smith will rejoin the team.  Wyoming plays at Idaho on Saturday.
