University Of Wyoming Celebrates Anniversary Of The Fall Of Berlin Wall

Jordan Giese

Students at the University of Wyoming have put up a mock-up of the Berlin Wall on campus to mark the 25th anniversary of its fall. The wall will be ceremoniously torn down on Thursday.

Associate political science professor Stephanie Anderson has been working closely with the German Embassy on the project.

The Berlin Wall stood from 1961 to 1989 and was the most visible sign of the Cold War. It split Germany and Berlin for nearly thirty years. Professor Anderson is the architect of the wall experience at the university and says that the Berlin Wall’s is a lesson on conflicts.

"We like to think that conflicts go on forever; the cold war would go on forever," Anderson said. "Well it felt like it went on forever but it actually ended quite suddenly, and I think it’s a lesson for us to all remember that all conflicts end."

The wall will be guarded by university R.O.T.C students and will be open to the public. People are encouraged to come and put paint on the display in the spirit of the graffiti that adorned much of the wall before its destruction.?
