A candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives has unveiled a plan to help Wyoming’s struggling energy industry—and to give back power to states.
Republican Tim Stubson calls his plan “winning back the west.” His biggest effort is to use legislation and the power of the purse to remove what he considers burdensome rules proposed by the Environmental Protection Agency.
“To defund the clean power plan, to defund enforcement of the waters of the United States, these unconstitutional measures that have already been passed and stayed by the Supreme Court. We’re also looking at how you would reverse fracking rules and other duplicative rules that apply to oil and gas.”
Stubson also wants to fund clean coal technology and fight to open coal export terminals. He also proposed the creation of charter rangeland and charter forests that would be managed by local governments and the state.
“You could allow for some different management and growing strategies that aren’t used on federal lands and do so in a smaller scale so that you can really prove out the concept. Show that Wyoming does have the ability, does have the capacity to manage those lands in a responsible way.”
