State Hopes Sale Of Troubled Nursing Homes Can Be Worked Out

The State of Wyoming has delayed the transfer of residents from two troubled nursing homes after learning that two private companies are considering purchasing them. The state was contacted by the companies over the weekend.

Wyoming took over operations of nursing home facilities in Saratoga and Rock Springs after Deseret Health Group said it was promptly closing the homes due to financial difficulties. State Health Department Director Tom Forslund says they were looking to place residents of the facilities into new nursing homes.

But he’s decided to delay the transfer of residents from the homes for a week to see if a sale of the homes can be worked out. But he admits it will be a challenge.

"They have a lot of unpaid bills as well as employees who haven’t been paid, so there is a number of outstanding legal issues that have to be worked through and whether they can be worked through is yet to be determined.”

Forslund says neither of the two companies are interested in taking on a lot of debt. Meanwhile, Governor Mead confirmed that the state is looking into legal action against Deseret.
