More Than 500 Girls Set To Attend Women In STEM Conference At UW

More than 500 middle and high school girls will explore careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math at the upcoming Women in STEM conference at the University of Wyoming.

At least 26 workshops and activities will be led mostly by women from organizations like the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, Tata Chemicals, and the University of Wyoming.

Michele Turner, one of the event’s coordinators, says one of the goals of the conference is to show girls that there are opportunities for them in STEM.

“They can come onto campus and see women doing these jobs. And we just hope to inspire them, give them mentors, and encourage them to pursue careers or even come to the University of Wyoming and pursue their education in the STEM fields,” says Turner.

The conference also serves as a recruiting tool for the university, with the admissions department holding campus tours and scholarship information sessions.

Women in STEM will take place across campus Tuesday, May 17th.
