Matt Mead Easily Wins Re-Election To Governor's Office

Governor Mead handily beat Democratic Challenger Pete Gosar. A strong economy generally favors the incumbent, and Mead undercut one of Gosar’s main criticisms when he came out in favor of Medicaid expansion earlier this year. Governor Mead says this term he wants to expand Medicaid in Wyoming.

“We are going to present an expansion plan to the Legislature for their consideration,” he says. “It's going to be a better plan than we had last year going into session.”

Pete Gosar says although he lost the Governor’s race, it is Wyoming Democrats who should take credit for popularizing Medicaid expansion.

“You know it’s become a popular thing in Wyoming and not a year ago was that the case--marriage equality also. And I think my side of the aisle should take credit for that.”

Governor Mead topped his 2010 election totals in six of Wyoming's twenty three counties. However, he did not meet his 2010 numbers in the state's seventeen other counties.
