Governor Matt Mead's Approval Rating Ranks Near Top Of U.S. Governors

According to a new poll, Wyoming Governor Matt Mead has the third highest approval rating of Governors across the U.S. The survey results were released last week by the non-partisan media and polling organization Morning Consult, which listed Governor Mead’s approval rating at 67 percent.

Jeff Cartwright is the communications director at Morning Consult. He says even with Wyoming facing a budget crunch, Governor Mead’s approval ratings may not be affected, simply because it’s hard to predict what will hurt a governor’s image.

"If you look at Scott Walker in Wisconsin, his approval has actually gone up and he’s done some similar budget cuts. What we’ve kind of noticed, going back to Rick Snyder the governor of Michigan who really plummeted in our rankings this time around, is what kind of headline seems to drive their approval rating up and down. So for him the Flint water crisis has really affected him," says Cartwright,

The data were gathered from January through May. 66,000 voters across the United States were simply asked whether they approved or disapproved of their state’s governor. Some question the accuracy of the poll noting the high margin of error of seven-point-six percent.
