Community Streets Plan Aims To Make Jackson Pedestrian-Friendly

Jackson’s bottleneck traffic may be getting some relief in the form of the Community Streets Plan.

The plan was created by Colorado firm Charlier Associates, and it aims to make walking, biking, and taking public transport more feasible for Jackson’s residents and visitors, which would hopefully make them less likely to use cars to get around. It looks to do this by installing more sidewalks, better bike lanes, and easier access to bus stops.

Terri Musser with Charlier Associates drafted the plan. She says not having enough sidewalks in Jackson can be unsafe, especially in the winter.

"Because of the snow that the community gets a lot of times, the only place for people to walk is in the streets. One thing to note, though, is that not all streets are created equal so we’re taking a very context sensitive approach," says Musser.

She says that kind of approach to streets means not just creating safer sidewalks, but creating places where people will want to get out and walk.

The plan is now available for public comment, and Musser hopes to bring it back before the town council on June 22nd.
