Anti-Trump Sentiment Led To Support For Cruz

The Wyoming Republican Party voted Saturday on who some of the state’s delegates will support in the GOP presidential convention in July.

Senator Ted Cruz dominated the contest winning 9 of the 12 delegates up for grabs. Marco Rubio and Donald Trump each got one delegate, and one delegate was elected as uncommitted. The rest of the state’s delegates will be decided at the GOP state convention in Casper in April.

Matt Micheli is the Chairman of Wyoming’s Republican party. He said, for many state Republicans, Cruz looked like the best bet to stop the current Republican presidential front runner Donald Trump.

“It was starting to look like the best chance to stop Trump was to vote for Cruz. So I think that probably played a part of Cruz doing so well. Was people starting to rally to the candidate that seemed to have the best chance to stop Donald Trump.”

Micheli also pointed out that Cruz spent more time campaigning in Wyoming than the other viable candidates. Wyoming has a total of 29 GOP delegates.
