For as long as 75-year-old Dick Baldes can remember, his tribe has tried to bring wild bison back to the Wind River Indian Reservation.
“Some of the old timers would talk about that and how important the bison was. I mean, that’s always been that way,” said Baldes.
On November 10, the Eastern Shoshone Tribe saw that dream realized. They set ten wild young bison loose on 300 acres on the Wind River Indian Reservation. Dick Baldes spent his entire career as a biologist working to bring back wildlife back to the reservation. And it was his son, Jason, who helped make the bison release a reality.
Wyoming Public Radio’s Melodie Edwards attended the release ceremony. It started with a prayer.
