Program Director

Position Overview:
Wyoming Public Media Program Director is a senior position that oversees all operational aspect of the station’s programming, on-air sound, production, audience research, and online integration. The Program Director supervises, analyze and recommend WPM’s daily on-air programming schedule, on-air announcers, and internet activity.

WPM is the 3rd largest state public radio network that covers the state of Wyoming and is managed from Laramie. It’s licensed to the University of Wyoming. WPM includes Wyoming Public Radio, Classical Wyoming, Jazz Wyoming and Wyoming Online.

Essential Duties:
Supervise Airstaff: Recruit, train, schedule, regularly aircheck and critique on-air staff to achieve excellence. Set clear performance standards for all air staff. Plan and monitor programming budget. Oversee operational tasks to ensure effective daily programming: Recommend and supervise the broadcast, recording and editing of programs for on-air and online. Oversee the scheduling and execution of automated programming.

Analyze reports and make recommendations to General Manager for effective program schedule for both on-air and online. Use broadcast and digital professional tools including audience research, surveys, digital research, and listener feedback to assess daily on-air and online content; recommend changes to improve service to listeners.

Coordinate with Development Staff to produce effective on-air and online fundraising: Suggest talent for and timing of on-air pledge breaks, schedule and assist in training staff in effective on-air pitching, produce fundraising announcements and pre-drive campaigns. Participate in on-air fundraising.
Produce on-air and online promotion and programming content: Plan recommend, schedule and produce effective program and station promotion in coordination with other WPR departments. Perform on-air duties as needed: Perform regular or fill-in airshifts in music or news as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Level Degree and three years of radio and online experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Online experience to include: Working knowledge of public radio web sites, including ability to generate content, edit web pages, manage and maintain content.
Working knowledge of public radio programming, analytic tools, and program production.
Excellent writing and grammar skills.
Strong planning and organizational skills.
Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills.
Desired Qualifications
Experience in content production for on-air and online.
Knowledge of public radio digital material and developments.
Strong familiarity with online protocols.
